Home Made Organic Insecticides

Home Made Organic Pesticides and Organic Insecticides whichever you prefer to call them!

In an Organic Garden, the use of Pesticides and Insecticides are greatly reduced as a more Natural Environment is created more in tune with the Elements and less likely to be attacked by Pests and Insects.

All the Remedies you will read about in this Chapter are Home Made as in you may even have most of them sitting at Home already.

Companion Planting and Pest Deterrents are discussed in another part of this site, follow these guidelines and the need for any Pesticides will be greatly reduced.

Organic Pesticides/Home Made.

Garlic;

Both useful as a Deterrent and Insecticide,

Crush or finely cut six cloves of Garlic and one Onion along with a pinch of Cayenne Pepper in a Litre of warm water overnight.

Strain and mix at the rate of one part Garlic Juice to three parts water with a little detergent to make it stick. Spray the Insects ensuring good coverage is achieved. Don't spray in the heat of the day as it will evaporate before it can work.

If the kill isn't completely successful increase the strength to one part Garlic two parts water.

Warning don’t get too much on yourself or you may not be allowed back inside!

Soap;

Castile soap is the best Home Made Organic Pesticide soap you can use, but at a pinch, most Laundry Detergents will work as long as they are Bio-degradable.

Mix one Tablespoon in a Litre of water, mix thoroughly and spray directly onto the Insects, again don't spray in the heat of the day as it can burn or shock your plant.

Soap is a great Pesticide for Aphids on your Roses and Hibiscus.

Be careful on soft seedlings or Annuals, spray a test area first.

Essential Oils;

Yes Essential Oils as an Organic Insecticide!

This Brew also works well as a Personnel Insect Repellent, I use it all the time to keep the Mozzies away in Summer.

In 200 mls of water add ten drops of either Tea Tree or Lavender Essential Oil with ten drops of Sage Essential Oil, shake well and spray lightly onto the Insects, spray a Mist into the air to at as a Deterrent for a bug-free evening outside.

Always give it a good shake before use.

Yellow;

Insects particularly the flying variety are attracted to Yellow.

Hang Yellow strips of Plastic etc smeared with Vaseline in the Garden, the bugs fly to them and become stuck to the Vaseline.

Fill up Ice Cream containers with water and enough Lemon Dish-washing Detergent to colour the water yellow, place them around the garden, again flying Insects will are attracted to the colour and drown.

Canola Oil;

Canola Oil is now available commercially as an Organic Pesticide, yes it doesn’t come much more Home Made than spraying your plants with the same stuff you cooked your chips in the night before!

Mix 20 mls of Canola Oil in one litre of water and spray directly onto your plants.

Molasses;

Yes Molasses, not only a tasty treat but also a great Insecticide.

Use at the rate of 10mls per Litre of water and thoroughly wet the plant and pests.

Apply at 5mls per Litre as a deterrent. T

The only Pesticide I know of where the kids are lining up to lick the mixing spoon!

Be Happy,

Barry
